Description
One of the great things about making art, especially in oil painting, is that when you’re inspired by an old tree, you can choose to paint that tree, or choose not to. Maybe you’re just inspired to paint something and that tree guides you.
There’s a continuum in Representational Art that journeys along from Realism to Impressionism, to Idealism, to Stylization, to Abstract, to purely Non-Objective – and lots of space in between with and without names.
This painting started out as something else entirely (and was almost to the point of scrapping) when this Old Tree came along while on a hiking break with my son, Kauland, who sees negative space in a totally different way. He and that tree transformed everything. Whoever learns how to listen to trees understands why they’re so happy.
