Taos artist Rosalind Rosen studied at the City University of New York where she earned a B.A. in Classics and the University of California Berkeley where she received an M.A. in Latin. She also attended the Art Students League in New York and UNM working with Gary Cook for the past twenty five years since relocating to Taos.
Taking her cues from an early interest in the vibrant colors and dramatic forms of the Sangre de Cristo area, her oil and mixed media paintings have evolved into a distinctly abstract style. Canvases are reworked over and over for surface buildup and texture until they cry out in pain and ask to be left alone. Upon close reflection of these latest paintings what may seem to be simple exhibit the same underlying complexities of her earlier art.
Rosen’s work can be found in collections both home and abroad. Her latest images may currently be viewed at Taos Artists Collective.
